DEHRA DUN
Dehra Dun is noted for the number of prestious instiutions and good residential
schools that are located there. it is the entry point to the hill station
of Mussoorie and to places of pilgrimage like Badrinath and Kedarnath.

The Forestry Research Institute, Sahastradhara, Tapovan, Guchchu pani,
Rajaji National park.
Access
Well connected by rail and road. Connected by daily flights to Delhi.
HARDWAR
Hardwar, where the river Ganga descends into the plains, is considered
a sacred place of pilgrimage. The kumbh mela is held here once every 12
years.

Har ki pauri, Daksh Memple, Sapt Rishi Ashram, parmath Ashram, Mansa Devi
Temple.
Access
Linked by rail to Delhi 222kms) and lucknow, Hardwar is accessible by
road form Delhi and dehra Dun (52 kms).
MUSSOORIE
A popular hill station at a height of 2000 m, Mussoorie is just 22kms
form Dehra Dun. Located on a horseshoe shaped ridge, it has a view of
the plains on the one hand and the magnificent Himalayan ranges on the
other.
Places of Interest
The Mall, Camels Back Road, Gun Hill, Lal Tibba, Jharipani Falls and kempty
Falls. There also interestin treks to Dewalsari and Nag Tibba.
Access
The nearest airport and railhead are Dehra Dun. Well linked by road.
RISHIKESH
It is quiet, serene spot surround by hills, way down to the plains. Rishikesh
is, as its name implies, a place for the Rishis- the sages and monks who
live in the ashrams along the banks of the river. Rishikesh is the base
for pilgrimages into the Himalayas, to places like Badrinath, Kedarnath
and to yamunotri and Gangotri- sources of the Yamuna and the Ganga. It
is also a base for exciting treks to the beautiful Valley of Flowers,
to ancient glaciers and for adventure sports like white river rafting.

Lakshman Temple, the Bharat, Shatruguna and Venkateswara Temples, Lakhman
Jhula.
Access
Linked by rail to Hardwar on a branch line. Regular bus services make
Rishesh easily accessible.
ALMORA
This beautiful little hill town has a collection of exquisite temples
and is also noted for its colorful fairs and festivals. An excellent base
for treks.

Interesting trips and treks are possible through this scenic area to katarmal
(17 kms), Binsar (30 kms), Gananath (47 kms) and Jogeshwar (34 kms).
Access
The nearest railhead is kathgodam (90 kms). The nearest airport is Pantnagar
(127 kms). Well connected by road.
RANIKHET
A beautiful unspoilt with spectacular views of the western Himalayas,
Ranikhet has pretty picnic spots, old temples,agood course and scenic
trekking routes.
Places of Interest
Temples at Dwarkaghat (38 kms), Dunagiri (52 kms), Jhula Devi (7 kms)
and Binsar Mahadev (19 kms). Vantage points with fine views include: Chaubatia
(10 kms), Majkhali (13 kms) and Sitakhet (26 kms). Upat (6 kms) has a
fine golf course and khairna (22 kms) is a splendid spot for fishing.
Manilla is a beautiful located holiday centre not far from Ranikhet.
Access
The nearest railhead is kathgodam (84 kms). The nearest airport is pantnagar
(119 kms). Well connected by road with good bus and tixi services from
Nainital, Almora and Kathgodam.
GANGOTRI

YAMNOTRI
The shrine of yamnotri,situated at an elevation of about 3,235 mt is a
point of paramount religious importance for hindus and an essential pilgrimage.Situated
in the direction opposite to Gangotri,the road bifurcates from a place
called Dharshu,somewhere between Rishikesh-Uttarkashi and goes on to Yamnotri.The
shrine can also be visited via Mussoorie and Barkot.

KEDARNATH
the Kedarnath shrine,one of the 12 jyotirlingas of lord Shiva,is a scenic
spot situated,against the backdrop of the majestic Kedarnath range.At
an altitude of 3,581 mt it is a 14 km from Gaurikund.
There are more than 200 shrines dedicated to lord shiva in Chamoli district
itself,the most important one is Kedarnath.According to legend,the Pundavas
after having won over the Kauravas in the Kurukshetra war(mahabharat),felt
guilty of having killed their own brothers and sought the blessing of
lord shiva for redemption.
BADRINATH
situated in the lap of nar-narayan parvat,with the towering Neelkanth
peak(6,597mt) in the background,Badrinath is one of the ,most revert Hindus
shrines of india.It has been said that"there were many scared spot
of pilgrimage in the heaven,earth and the world but neither is there any
equals to Badrinath nor shall there be one."
Badrinath situated at an elevation of 3,133 mt is consider to be amongest
the most pious.
